Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) takes recently formed Team Sonic (Sonic, Tails and Knuckles) on their biggest adventure yet as they face a powerful new threat: Shadow the Hedgehog, a hedgehog quite similar to Sonic, but black instead of blue and created as part of a secret government experiment known as Project Shadow.
Shadow appears as a mighty new antagonist with a tragic past, which adds a darker tone to the saga of movies. To face him, Team Sonic will have to form an unexpected alliance with their past enemy: Dr. Robotnik (or Eggman as Sonic calls him).

Sonic is one of the most iconic video game characters out there, next to other popular characters like Mario.
Sonic was created by Japanese game designer Yūji Naka in 1991 at Japanese video game company Sega. It was conceived as a company mascot to compete against Nintendo's Mario games. The first game was an instant hit and since then many sequels and spin-offs were released.
Due to its success, Sonic was adapted to other media as well, such as comics (the Archie comics), animated TV shows (both American and Japanese, like Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic X) and live-action movies (Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3), and a lot of merchandise was released as well.
