Deciding your learning goals and  finding authentic learning resources in Korean, such as TV shows, songs, podcasts,  are two important aspects to take into account when learning not only Korean, but any language.

Navigating such a newly trending language might seem confusing, but do no worry, hence in this article, we'll take a look at my personal favorite websites to learn Korean, and what's best for every language aspect such as vocabulary, grammar and conversation.

Without further ado, let's begin!

What are the 9 sites to learn Korean?

1.Lingopie.

If you're looking for a site where you can learn Korean by watching TV shows, then Lingopie is for you.

Lingopie offers authentic and great TV shows in many languages, including Korean. You can watch episodes of your favorite shows with both English and Korean subtitles, pause the video and click on the words or phrases you want to learn that are on the subtitles. Every time you click on a word, it adds immediately to your vocabulary to practice and review.

But, wait! Not only there are TV shows, but also music videos! You can learn Korean by singing your favorite K-Pop songs!

In conlusion, Lingopie is a great option for Korean learners who want to learn from authentic materials, learn vocabulary and phrases from TV shows or add some immersion to their Korean learning.

2.How to study Korean.

This site offers lots of materials about Korean with detailed explanations using text, charts and graphics, and divided in units or lessons.

Each unit comes with not only clear explanations, but also with quizzes, audios for Korean words and tests.

Since the site focus mostly on grammar, it's great for those who want to understand how Korean works, specially English speaking learners. However, you can also learn the Korean script and vocabulary.

3.Loecsen.

This site has lots of languages to learn (around 50!) and one of these languages is Korean.

With Loecsen, you learn Korean by spaced repetition: you listen to the phrase or words and repeat it many times with pauses from time to time until you incorporate it.

Lessons are divided according to daily life situations, like greetings, going shopping or asking directions. What's more, the site is very visual, with illustrations showing you the meaning and context of the phrase.

In other words, Loecsen is suitable for Korean learners who want to learn the language at a conversational level and that are searching for more visual learning resources.

4.Korean Class 101.

If you want to learn Korean at a conversational level, Korean Class 101 is for you.

This site offers lessons for all levels centered on audio and video, along with a dictionary and flashcards to practice the new vocabulary. Each lesson is about 10 minutes long, so it makes a good choice for those who are busy and don't have a lot of time.

Explanations about the context of the dialogues are given by native Korean teachers who guide you through your learning. In fact, a personalized teacher is assigned to you, so you can ask him or her about what you don't understand, practice conversation or receive feedback about your progress in the language. A personalized program can be done, but it's only available with the Premium subscription (the site is free to use though).

5.Learn Langs.

Do you want to learn and master the Korean writing system first? Then Learn Langs is what you've been searching for.

The site offers a short free course with 6 lessons where you'll learn how to write and read each Korean letter from the hangul writing system. Starting from the most basic letters and then writing your own words in Korean.

Each hangul letter comes with an audio to help you listen and pronounce it.

If you're an absolute beginner and you want to start with the alphabet first, Learn Langs is the choice for you.

6.Dom & Hyo.

Dom & Hyo is a site created by an American-Korean couple which is a perfect choice for those people who want to start with the basics of Korean.

The site specializes on vocabulary and offers a wide collection of infographics, blog articles, short videos and ebooks. Infographics in particular are very colorful, cute and simple, making it a good start for absolute beginners who want to acquire some basic vocabulary.

A free ebook is also available for download for those who want to learn the hangul writing system easily.

7.Mango Languages.

Like Loecsen, Mango Languages offers many languages you can learn. In fact, there are 70 languages you can choose from. And, yes, Korean is among them.

Each language you learn is divided in units focusing on certain daily life situation and each unit is divided into lessons. The more you advance through the units, the more phrases you learn.

Another feature that Mango Languages share with Loecsen is its learning method: spaced repetition, making it a great option for those who want to learn Korean at a conversational level. In addition, grammatical and cultural notes appear from time to time to help you understand not only how Korean works, but also the cultural background behind it.

The only downside is that there isn't any illustration or photo to help you understand better the phrases. Only text. So learners searching for a more visual way of learning Korean would be disappointed.

8.Preply.

If you're looking for lessons with a teacher or tutor, then try Preply.

On Preply you can search for qualified Korean teachers from all over the world, view their ratings and introductory video. What's more, the site asks you what your goals, level and availability are to make your search faster.

Once you've found your match, you can book a 25 or 50-minute trial class with the teacher. If you think the teacher doesn't fit your goals or level, you can try another one. When you've found your teacher and done the trial lesson, you can book more lessons with him or her.

Preply is perfect for those who want 1-on-1 lessons with the guidance of a teacher and want to focus on the things they're interested to learn since you can ask your teacher which topics you want to be taught and which don't.

9.Talk to me in Korean.

This site's goal is to teach you Korean grammar through conversation videos, workbooks, quizzes, PDFs and podcasts, so you can comprehend it quick and use it efficiently when speaking.

In addition to all the resources that Talk to me in Korean offers, you can visit their YouTube channel where you can find courses and reading materials for beginners.

In conclusion, Talk to me in Korean is the perfect choice for those Korean learners who want to learn more about Korean grammar through a variety of resources and not only text.

Knowing your goals with Korean.

Korean is an interesting and fun language to learn, but sometimes it can be hard, specially if you don't use the right learning resources or don't know what your goals are.

First of all, if you're an absolute beginner, start thinking why you want to learn the language and where you want to begin. Do you want to learn the alphabet first to write names and words in Korean? Do you want to speak some basic phrases? Or do you want to sing your favorite K-pop songs? The choice will depend on your goals with the language.

And if you're already learning Korean, think about which aspect of the language you want to enhance: grammar, reading, listening, speaking or just watching or listening to more authentic material, like TV shows, podcasts, songs, among others.
