I'm a Northern Virginia native with 15 years of experience learning and speaking Spanish. I have experience with a variety of dialects from both Spain and Latin America. I have 6 years of teaching experience from elementary students to university students. One of the strategies I recommend to my own students is to watch movies and TV series in Spanish. This method is advantageous because it lowers learner anxiety which in turn allows the learner to pay attention to features of languages they may not be able to notice in a communicative situation. It has the additional advantage of allowing learners to learn the pragmatics of the language (how you say what and to whom in certain situations). There is ample anecdotal evidence of learners who have learners that have picked up language via entertainment and media, and foreign language research is just now starting to pay closer attention to this method of acquisition. Why do you think learning a language via TV and Films is so great?

I'm a firm believer that input is everything! I have utilized the power of series and movies to improve my Spanish when I was a novice learner and I continue to do so with other languages that I'm learning (Catalan & Portuguese).
